BPT (Bachelor of Physiotherapy) – 4 Years +6 Months Internship
Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPT) – 4 Years + 6 Months Internship
The Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPT) is a 4.5-year undergraduate professional program designed to train students to become experts in rehabilitation and physical therapy. The program is structured into four years of academic instruction followed by six months of a mandatory clinical internship. This structure ensures graduates gain a deep understanding of the human body and develop essential practical skills needed to treat physical dysfunction, disability, and pain using evidence-based techniques.
Eligibility criteria
  • Successful completion of the 12th standard (or equivalent) from a recognized board, with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (PCB) as compulsory subjects.
  • A minimum aggregate score, typically 50% or higher in PCB subjects, is required for the general category, with potential relaxation for reserved categories (e.g., 40-45% for SC/ST).
  • The minimum age limit is typically 17 years by December 31st of the admission year.
  • Some institutions may have specific subject requirements, such as English, depending on the program’s focus.
Admission process
  • Admission is often based on performance in entrance exams, merit from 12th-grade marks, or a combination of both.
  • Popular entrance exams include NEET, CUET, KCET, and university-specific entrance tests.
  • The admission process may involve applying online or offline, appearing for entrance tests (if required), participating in counselling sessions, and confirming admission through document verification and fee payment.
Curriculum
The BPT curriculum is designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of human anatomy and physiology, the principles of physiotherapy, and the application of various treatment techniques. The four academic years cover a range of subjects:

Salary expectations
The average starting salary for BPT graduates typically ranges from INR 2.5 LPA to INR 5 LPA, although this can vary based on job role, experience, location, and the employing organization. Experienced professionals can earn significantly higher salaries, potentially reaching INR 12 LPA or more, according to AmbitionBox. Specializations like sports physiotherapy, geriatrics, or neurology can lead to higher earning potential. Government jobs in physiotherapy offer stability and benefits, with salaries increasing with experience.
Further education
After completing BPT, graduates can pursue higher education options for specialization and career advancement:
